About Rotary

Rotary is the world’s first service organization, founded in 1905 by Paul Harris in Chicago. Today, Rotary brings together over 1.4 million members worldwide under its motto, “Service Above Self.”

Rotaract — short for Rotary in Action — is a program of Rotary International that empowers young adults (18–30 years) to develop leadership skills, build friendships, and create lasting community impact. Globally, there are over 10,000 Rotaract clubs across 184 countries, including more than 95 active clubs in District 9212.

Rotary's Focus Areas

Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention

Rotary works to prevent conflict and promote peace through projects that foster understanding and goodwill.

Disease Prevention and Treatment

This focus includes projects that support the prevention and treatment of diseases, such as Rotary's long-standing work to eradicate polio.

Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene

Rotary's projects in this area aim to provide communities with access to clean water and sanitation, which helps prevent waterborne illnesses.

Maternal and Child Health

This focus area involves projects that improve access to quality care for mothers and children.

Basic Education and Literacy

Rotary works to strengthen communities' capacity to support basic education and literacy for all.

Protecting Our Environment

This is Rotary's newest area of focus, which involves projects that protect the environment and address environmental issues.

Community Economic Development

Projects under this focus aim to enhance economic and community development, support entrepreneurs, and strengthen local communities, particularly in impoverished areas.
