A Global Rotary Partnership in Action

This initiative was made possible through the partnership of:

Rotaract Club of Nairobi Parklands, Rotaract Club of Maasai Mara, Rotary Club of Forest Lake, Minnesota

Together with the local community and generous donors, the teams officially launched the borehole project and set the stage for a fully functional, community-run water system by April 2025. Today, that vision has already begun to bear fruit.

This project is a powerful example of Rotary’s global network working hand-in-hand with local leadership to deliver sustainable solutions.

Water That Keeps Giving

The borehole is now operational, and the impact is visible across Mukuyuni Village:

  • Families now access safe and reliable water close to home
  • Reduced time spent walking long distances for water
  • Improved hygiene and health outcomes
  • Increased school attendance for children who previously spent hours fetching water

But the project goes beyond simply drilling a borehole—it was designed with long-term sustainability at its core.

The Water Kiosk: A Model for Sustainability

A community water kiosk has been established where residents can purchase water at an affordable price.

The funds collected are reinvested into:

  • Maintenance and repairs of the water system
  • Expansion of water access in the future
  • Building a financial cushion for emergencies

This model ensures the project will continue serving the community for years to come without depending solely on external funding.

True sustainability happens when communities own and manage their projects. That’s why training was a central pillar of this initiative.

Community members received training in:

  • WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene)
  • Safe water handling and storage
  • Hygiene best practices
  • Sanitation awareness to prevent waterborne diseases

Importantly, many of the skills used in the project came from within the community itself, reinforcing local ownership and pride.

The Rotary & Donor Impact

This project demonstrates how donor support and Rotary’s service model create lasting change rather than temporary relief.

Every contribution from donors has translated into real change—clean water, improved health, stronger leadership, and a self-sustaining system that will continue growing. (Donate)

Looking Ahead

Mukuyuni Village now has more than a borehole—it has a future built on resilience and self-reliance.

As we look toward full project completion and future expansion, this partnership stands as a reminder of what happens when global goodwill meets local commitment.

Clean water is no longer a daily struggle in Mukuyuni.

It is a shared success story.

Together, we are not just drilling boreholes — we are building sustainable communities.
