Growing Hope December 2025: A Rotary Act of Care for Children

December is a season of reflection, gratitude, and giving. In true Rotary spirit—Service Above Self—our club came together to close the year with an act of compassion that went beyond charity and into dignity, sustainability, and hope. (View more images)

During the festive season, we carried out a community service project at Good Samaritan Children’s Home-Mathare, focusing on meeting both immediate needs and long-term impact. At the heart of the project was the donation of 175 pairs of “Shoes That Grow”innovative footwear designed to expand as a child grows, lasting up to five years. This was not just a donation of shoes, but an investment in the children’s future, health, and mobility.

In many vulnerable communities, children outgrow shoes faster than families can replace them. By providing shoes that grow, we reduced this burden while ensuring protection, comfort, and confidence for years to come. Watching the children walk, run, and smile in their new shoes reminded us that thoughtful solutions can transform lives in simple but powerful ways.

Complementing the shoes, Rotaractors and Rotary family members also donated clothes, footwear, and foodstuffs, responding holistically to the needs of the home. The project became a collective effort; members giving from their wardrobes, their kitchens, and their hearts. It was Rotary in action: people of action coming together to uplift others. (Donate)

Beyond the material donations, the visit itself mattered. Time was spent listening, laughing, and sharing moments with the children, reminding us that presence is just as important as presents. The project strengthened our belief that service is not only about what we give, but how we connect.

This December initiative reaffirmed Rotary’s commitment to child welfare, dignity, and sustainable service. As we step into a new year, we carry forward the lessons from this project: that compassion grows when shared, and that small, well-thought-out actions can create lasting impact.

Together, we continue to unite for good—one child, one step, one smile at a time. (Become a Member)
